POPULAR MUSIC
Popular Music is usually in the form of a song with accompaniment (often piano). Its primary intention is to provide entertainment and diversion. Composed and published to make a profit, it is only secondarily a form of self-expression.

JAZZ
Jazz has no standard definition. It does, however, always involve lively syncopated rhythms and instrumental improvisation. The style was developed around the turn of the twentieth century by African-Americans. Famous jazz musicians include Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong (1901-1971) and Lillian Hardin-Armstrong (1898-1971).

ROCK
Rock is a form of popular vocal music that has an energetic, syncopated rhythm and features electric guitar accompaniment and other amplified instruments. Its function as dance music was initially paramount and has continued to be important. It has developed in the United States Rock is as much a social phenomenon as it is musical. It is often identified as the music of the youth.
No rock group achieved the fame or sold as many records as the Beatles. The members of the group – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and after 1962 Ringo Starr – were all born in Liverpool of working class parents during World War II. The Beatles did not enter the American rock scene until early 1964. By February of 1964 the Beatles were in United States in person for appearances at the Carnegie Hall and a television debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show”. When their plane landed at Kennedy airport, the police had to restrain some 5,000 ecstatic teenagers. At the performance their music could hardly be heard over the screaming. Their main avenue of performance was the recording, as it for the most rock groups. One of their most celebrated albums was “:Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” that demonstrated best the group’s diverse talents.

COUNTRY MUSIC
The country music associated with Nashville, Tennessee, has been popular for many years. The musical qualities of country style reveal an ancestry in the Southern mountain folksong, which in turn grew out English folksongs.
The texts are sometimes narrative in form, and they often express sadness. The harmony, rhythm, and phrase patterns are simple and direct. The songs are often accompanied by electric guitars and fiddle. In country music, the sociological factors are as significant as the musical factors.
Increased interest in country music correlates to the renewed interest in nostalgia-looking back with favor on the past, when life seemed simpler and happier. Stars of this kind of music include Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.

SOUL
Soul or rhythm-and-blues is the popular music associated with America’s black population. Its musical qualities reveal some aspects of African music, especially in the style of singing. It is emotional and forceful, with calls and exclaimed words.
The music is often loud. Some writers include gospel music in the soul category and the relationship are close between these styles.
Prominent names in soul music include James Brown, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, and Stevie Wonder.

BROADWAY MUSICALS
The Broadway Musical is an American tradition extending back well into the nineteenth century, although it has distant ancestor in the vaudevilles of France.
An immediate predecessor was the operetta, which was usually based on long ago-ago-and-far-away subjects. “West Side Story” and “Phantom of the Opera” were among the most popular Broadway musicals ever produced.

Dear Classmates:

Though it may not be the season of Christmas anymore, it is still ever the time of giving--at least, according to CL class, and we all know how much we can depend on that. Nevertheless, it is true. Now, more than ever, people need a bit of kindness and generosity to brighten up their lives, considering the bleak circumstances of the present.

This week, students were told that there would be classes on this most august of days. They were, however, sadly misinformed, for Friday dawned upon the blackboards that told in bold letters: "NO CLASSES TODAY, ALL LEVELS," or something to that effect.

But alas, the students were not aware of this, and so they left their school books and notebooks to cool in their lockers, unaware that they would not be given the chance to retrieve them in time for the grueling days of study ahead.

And thus, they are bereft of their notes, unarmed in the face of the looming exams that will determine their future report cards. I ask you, will you leave them hanging, alone and defenseless? Will you turn your backs on your unfortunate comrades when they need academic help the most?

(...Maybe. *shrug*)

So I implore you, and this heartfelt plea goes out to the tenderness in your hearts.

Give notes? Anything? Do it for the class, and whatever unfortunate soul may be leeching off this journal.

First and foremost, Congratulations to the debaters. Hear, hear! ü

Anyway, I know that reading all my posts must be somewhat tiring already, however, I just want to inform you guys that I started having our clearance signed. So far, some have already signed... BUT:

LIBRARY : Gadia and Ramirez (Please settle your accounts or return the books soon ü)
AV : Albelda (Please return the casette tape that you borrowed early January. If you still can't remember, the title is "The Prayers". Basta, find a way to replace it nalang if you can't find it. ü)

In addition to that, hereunder are the other equally important reminders:
Please submit your encyclical by this Friday (And yes, again, Ms. Sugay is making me collect it. It's for clearance! ü)
Another thing, Ms. Combis won't sign our clearance until Ms. Ipay and Sir Perry have signed. I already settled the lab breakages (?) and we're cleared for half of Lab! hahaü However, Sir Perry said he wants our LAB Clearbook (complete experiments with table of contents thing and other papers(?) ü) by this Friday.
Also, Ms. Mercado will only sign the clearance after we submit the Talaban Hard bound; returned the sample Talaban last year which some of you may have borrowed; after taking the Trim. Exam, S9 and S10 Tests.

    I would like to congratulate all the debaters for a job well done. All of you were very impressive indeed. I believe we've just had the most exciting debate out of the whole fourth year batch.
         Sam Lee, with her frustrated (and murderous) looks;
         Danica, with the bone-chilling tone in her voice;
         Naesa, with her entertaining responses to Points of Information;
         Trish, with her rebuttals and monotone responses;
         Bianca, with her very passionate speech on why industrialization is good;
         Shaina, with her numerous examples that further substantiated her group's stand; and
         Mikki, with her summary that was both eerily (is that a word?) logical and fun to listen to.

    Let us not forget to thank and congratulate the active participants present in the class.

AGRICULTURE

- Art and Science of tilling the soil in order to plant vegetables, fruits, crops
- Also includes livestock, fishing, and logging

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE GROWTH OF CROPS:
1. Climate
2. Soil
3. Topography
4. Transportation
5. Distance form the Markets
6. Land cost

IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE:
1. Source of food
2. Source of raw materials for other products
3. Provides jobs for Filipinos
4. Serves as the market of products from other sectors (they are consumers also! =)
5. Earns dollars from exported harvests - PROFITS

PROBLEMS OF AGRICULTURE:
1. Shortage in farmlands
2. Inefficient government policies
3. High cost of production

KINDS OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN LANDOWNERS AND FARMERS:
1. Rented Land – farmer pays for land in the form of rent, cost depends on size, plant it bears, distance of land from the road and it’s irrigation system
2. Share in the products – kasama gives the landowner a share of his harvest, partition is agreed upon before the farmer uses the land, indefinite partition
3. Definite share – farmers pay a definite number of shares to the landowner (fixed amount)
4. Free use of land – landowner allows the farmer to use his land for free, someone is watching over his properties

PROBLEMS OF THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR:
1. Shortage in farmlands
2. Inefficient government policies (decrease in P, decrease in Incentives, decrease in Production, increase in Demand, increase in P)  Ex. When price of agri crops decrease, the incentive decreases, the production decreases also but the demand increases. Ah, basta ganon. )
3. Lack of sufficient funds
4. High cost of production (ex. Machines, fertilizers)

Industrial Sector
INDUSTRY
-canned goods, clothing, shoes, household drinks, and others
--> part of economy that processes raw materials into different products
includes: Manufacturing, mining, & construction & utilities
